Thinner and Sharper Kindle to be Launched this Year

Amazon apparently feels the pressure of the increasing popularity of the iPad, that they are going to launch a more responsive Kindle towards the third quarter this year. And it is going to be thinner and sharper too. While it will offer fast turning of pages, it will not be a touch screen nor a colored device. Apple eyes to dominate the e-book market, something that Amazon has a tight hold of for the longest time.

Now I have expressed my lust over the iPad but reading tweets and blogs about the people who own units, I realized that people are not really using the new hot item for reading. Or are they? Since the new iPad’s LED screen is not really good for the eyes when reading for long periods of time, I wonder if it’s really what I need? Kindle will give ma an option when I finally have the budget to buy a new gadget :)

The French fashion designer Gaultier, 58 and Hermes’ artistic director of women’s RTW, will step down after seven years playing the role. He will be replaced by Christophe Lemaire. His last collection would be the spring-summer 2011 to be presented in October. The Paris-based company plans to inject new energy and innovation in their designs so this move is deemed brilliant. Gaultier will remain a main shareholder, though, with 45% stake in the company.

CPA Board Exam 2010 Results

May

CPA is a profession that is pretty close to my heart. My Mom is one and I almost changed my degree to BSA when I was at the University. The only thing that stopped me was that I was a point short to getting the required grade to enroll in the program. Hehe. I was in delusion then, thinking that I can make it. But I guess fate has other plans for me.

Anyway, I was watching the news tonight when they features this year’s topnotcher – a Cebuana that almost always settled for second best. Gecel Codera of University of San Jose- Recoletos could not believe she topped this year’s board with 93.14%. She was always second in GS (but graduated First), was a Salutatorian in HS, Magna cum Laude in College. So imagine her delight (and her parents’ too!) to have heard of the good news!

HERE IS THE COMPLETE LIST OF PASSERS, a total of 1,886 out of 4,772 passed.

Anyway, I find it amusing that 98% passed from my old University – the 2% is for that one person who did not make it. And that one person is a re-taker. I can only imagine how disappointed the school is. :|

French Open 2010 Ladies’ Fashion

May

I only got hooked in watching Tennis in 2008 before I learned that I was pregnant with my DD. I was drawn to the beautiful faces of Ana Ivanovic and Rafael Nadal :) Anyway, before then, I never knew that female players (at least some of them) actually dress up to play. That adds spice to the matches I think. I actually look forward to the gear (and wish I can still fit nicely in them! LOL). ;)

French Open this year is no different. Check out the clothes!

Aravane Rezai. I was actually not too excited about the dress because it is gold (the whole back is gold). Imagine having to watch her on the court under the sunlight?! My eyes, my eyes!

The Williams sisters never fail to amaze…

frenchO10_serena

Serena in Neon Blue and Green, woah!

frenchO10_venus

Venus! I think she takes the cake in Black lace with red trimmings. Playing or going to bed?!

I cannot wait to see what the others will wear (Maria!). Let’s all wait until everyone is done with round 1!

Sex and the City 2

One of the movies that I am so looking forward to this year is Sex and the City 2. I am glad that the waiting time is almost over since the movie will start showing towards the end of the month! I love these four ladies and I used to watch the series too. More than the characters, I can’t wait to see the bags and the pairs of shoes that they are going to use in the movie. Oh, and don’t forget Mr. Big, my man! LOL!

Young Filipino Scientists

I remember bagging the Best Chemistry Project in high school (eons ago!) together with my group mates. It was an unbelievable moment when we saw that big red ribbon on our booth! Ours was an environmentally friendly study using some recyclable trash in making bricks. Needless to say, we also won the most environmentally friendly project. Double-whammy! :D That was the nearest point I got to being a scientist, LOL!

Watching the news the other night, I heard of High School Pisay students who competed and won in San Jose CA. Here’s the link to the video news.

Way to go kids! Continue making your country proud!

Summer Sale at ON

May

Who does not love shopping when sale alerts are up?! We are not due to go to the beach anytime soon but the Summer Sale over at Old Navy is pretty enticing. I can always wear them next year, right? But I need to remind myself that I need to lose more weight before I find the guts to wear two-piece suits again, LOL! That alone must also keep me away from shopping when I need to save up for something more important at this time, teehee!

Check out the items, if you must!

How to Clean Your Monitor or Laptop

May
No Comments   Posted by Geeky Fashionista |  Category:Uncategorized

One day, my mom did not bring her lappy with her so she had to borrow mine to tend to her “farm”. She noticed that mine is cleaner than hers, because obviously, I take time to clean dear laptop every chance I get. In her defense (because she is not really techie), she said that she does not know how to do it properly and that she’s afraid she might ruin her unit. I understand the dilemma since these things are fragile and extra care must be observed. So I told her these tips I found in the internet before which she might find useful herself:

  • Make sure that your unit is turned off;
  • Avoid regular home cleaning agents, especially those that contain alcohol, acetone, or ammonia because these things can strip off the protective layers of your unit;
  • Invest in a good microfiber cloth and wipe off dust gently. Anything that is course will definitely scratch surfaces; and
  • If you must (read: dust too stubborn), use distilled water to moisten your cloth then wipe in rapid circular motions.

There are also pre-made solutions available in the market if you are too nervous to mix your own solution. I think it is also safer if you just buy than using a mixture you are not too sure about.

Stumbled Upon: LIfe’s Little Mysteries

May

If I tell you that I actually bought these books (the second one was fancied by my husband when we were in Costco, and who am I to decline when it is not always that he likes to read books?!):

einstein bookforboys

What comes to mind? Looking at these titles, you’d know that I am into trivial matters, too :) So I am so giddy to have found a site with lots of trivia to share: Life’s Little Mysteries! Hop on to the site and you just might find a carefully researched and well-written answer to your question!

Perfect Mother’s Day Gift

May
No Comments   Posted by Geeky Fashionista |  Category:Jewelry

One of the gift suggestions that caught my eye is this one from collectiblestoday.com:

mothernecklace

Really nice and I believe a perfect way to thank your Mommy. This is something for keeps and she will always remember the gesture (not that she will ever forget you). As for me, I was not able to get anything for my own Mom but I guess she appreciates that I greeted her and told her I love her.

I am a Nanay myself (this is actually the second year that i am already a mother myself) but I have learned not to expect anything.

Happy Mothers’ day to all the Moms in the world! :)
